Report ‘Fragile Job’

There has been research about the effect of the closing down windows at 1012 and all the effects for the prostitution in the city. It’s called “Kwetsbaar Beroep” - Fragile Job-

The result of the examination is:
The policy as started is negative for the whole prostitution branch but the elderman will continue the project 1012 and close down windows. The Mayor, Van der Laan, called the report ‘convincing’ but says the negative effect for shutting down prostitutionwindows at the workers is “weakly solid”.

There is no body of evidence that all the prostitutes are ’white slaves’ (forced workers) but at some points it ‘burns’.
But as said; no proof. If it’s proofed the window will be closed and the license will be rejected.
It’s hard for the goverment to get into the ‘forced workers circuit’. The chain is too long.
In the report is written: “Probably a cell in Bulgary or Romania stimulates (forces?) a women to work in the prostitution, another cell will do the transportation to Holland and another cell in Holland will do the paperwork, housing and renting the window for the girls.” It’s hard to get in this world for the police.

Progression ‘Project 1012′

The council of the city-centre of Amsterdam has determined that over 60 windows has to be closed at the Main District & The Singel-area. The utilization for prostitution will be suspended in the future. Also the number of ‘coffeeshops’ will be reduced in the city-centre.

In the future only the windows at the Oudezijds Achterburgwal & alleys (Main district) and the Oude Nieuwstraat (Singel district) will remain open for prostitution.

Totaly 62 premises will lose their utilization, 52 at the main district and 10 at the Singel Area. 31 are already prostitution-free. The other 31 will loose their license shortly.

Eberhard van der Laan new Mayor of Amsterdam

On Wednesday, 7 July 2010, in a ceremony at City Hall, Eberhard van der Laan was sworn in as Mayor of Amsterdam.

Former Housing and Integration Minister Eberhard van der Laan (55) was selected as the final candidate by Amsterdam City Council.
He was officially sworn in on 7 July 2010.

Van der Laan signed the papers together with Commissioner to the Queen Johan Remkes.
Deputy Mayor (and interim mayor until 7 July) Lodewijk Asscher then hung the Chain of Office on the new mayor.

Mayor Job Cohen resigns

Job Cohen resigns his job as Mayor of Amsterdam immediately and “I will miss it terribly”, he said last friday (March, 12-2010) at a pressconference. He will become the new partyleader for the PvdA, the biggest Labour political party of The Netherlands. The former partyleader, Wouter Bos, resigns will leave the politics cause he want to spend more time with his family & kids. It’s expected Cohen will boost the party to be leading and Cohen might be prime minister after the elections of June this year. Cohen has been mayor of Amsterdam since Januari, 17-2001. Mayor Cohen resigns with immediate effect

In a statement made earlier today, Friday 12 March 2010, Job Cohen announced his resignation as Mayor of Amsterdam with immediate effect. He has entered his name as a candidate for election as the new leader of the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) following the resignation of Wouter Bos.
